When you experience a setback, do you:
Get Louder and take a stand
Keep to yourself and ruminate
Make yourself appear perfect / compliant
Which one are you? Maybe a combo of two?
Here's what each style looks like in action:
Type #1 becomes louder, more colorful, entitled, charming, and dominant. They use their presence to attempt to manipulate and dominate others.
Rationale: if you can get your way, why not do it in the moment
Type #2 rolls their eyes, or may become emotionless in the moment, dismissing their audience and retreating inward.
Rationale: if these idiots don't get it, there's no point in continuing to argue
Type #3 resorts to making everything perfect and creating an appearance of infallibility.
Rationale: if i'm perfect, they can't get rid of me
You likely cope with stress in one of these ways without even knowing you're doing it. It's a coping reaction you developed in your early years to protect yourself.
Today, these behaviors weaken your effectiveness, take you out of the moment, and alienate your colleagues.
What are you doing that you can't see?
